A socially distanced, hands-on sourdough workshop for beginners, taught by Liz Martin, amateur sourdough bread baker and WGC Board Member.
About this Event
Only 12 spots are available for this socially distanced beginners sourdough workshop at Wild Goose Creative 1.5 in the Bridge Gallery at 400 West Rich, taught by Liz Martin.
If you've been wanting to try your clean hands at sourdough, but just didn't know where to start or felt intimidated, this is for you. In two hours, you'll leave with dough ready for proofing to make two loaves of fresh sourdough bread in your own oven. You'll get the feel for what the dough and timing should be like for delicious, fresh bread every time. You'll be surprised what a successful sourdough baker you can be!
In this 2 hour course, you'll receive and will take home to keep:
sourdough starter- enough to make the hands on instructed recipe, plus enough to build your own supply for future baking
flour and salt: enough to make your in-class batch
4 qt stainless mixing bowl- where you'll build your dough and take it home
2 tea towels- for lining your bowls for the shaped loaves and overnight proofing
Rice flour- enough to line your towel with and prep your baking vessel
A Lame- the blade you use to score your bread
A video link to watch over and over so you never forget what to do
What you'll need to bring:
A healthy body with clean hands
A mask
What you need at home to complete the bread process, you will shape your loaves at home 4 hours after class and bake your bread the NEXT DAY:
Another mixing bowl or pot or basket
A large knife
A refrigerator with enough room for your new bowl and the other one you already have
A dutch oven, combo cooker, or lidded larger pot. Cast iron is ideal, lid is essential
An oven you can get to 450 degrees
More flour and water to keep building your starter for future baking
Nice to have for future that you will have access to in the class:
A food scale
